You're Barely using ChatGPT

Good morning,

You're barely using ChatGPT to its fullest capabilities.

Now, I'm sure you use ChatGPT to write emails and answer questions throughout your day. Those are useful shortcuts, but they barely scratch the surface of what you can actually do with it.

Today, I’ll show you five levels that can help you move beyond basic prompting and get significantly more value from ChatGPT.

And tomorrow, I'm going to share an absolute game changer with you. Don't miss it.

Cogito ____ (coming soon):

Coming August 10th 👀

What's Going on:

Think about your ChatGPT use in five levels:

  1. Ask: You ask a question and get an answer.
  2. Context: You provide examples, files, goals, and constraints.
  3. Collaborate: You iterate, challenge responses, and improve the result together.
  4. Systemize: You create reusable instructions and workflows for recurring tasks.
  5. Delegate: You give ChatGPT an objective and use it to help complete multiple steps toward the outcome.

If you wanna be more advanced, move past level 1.

How do you primarily use ChatGPT?

Why it matters to you:

If you only use ChatGPT for individual requests, you have to restart the process every time.

You explain the task, you provide context, you correct mistakes and then you do it all over the next time.

Instead, identify work you do repeatedly and build a reusable process around it (further explained tomorrow).

If you write a weekly report, for example, ChatGPT could help analyze your data, identify important changes, draft the report, challenge weak conclusions, and format the final version.

Redesign the workflow and reap the benefits forever.

Prompt of the Day:

Act as my AI workflow strategist and ask me about the tasks I repeat every week. Once you understand them, identify the three tasks where AI could save me the most time. For each one, break the task into steps, explain what you can handle and what requires my judgment, then create a reusable workflow I can follow every time.

Save Time/Money:

Open your ChatGPT history and look at the requests you’ve made over the past month.

Find something you’ve asked it to do more than once.

Instead of writing another prompt from scratch, create a reusable template containing your goal, context, preferred output, constraints, examples, and review criteria (don't miss tomorrow's email to learn more).

If you repeatedly spend ten minutes (or more) explaining the same task before ChatGPT can help, then you're wasting keystrokes.

Your easiest AI productivity win is already in your chat history.

Newsletter Rec:

Subscribe to I Hate it Here. Their email is weekly and it's exactly for overworked/emotionally burned out HR people. I know a handful of you who read Cogito work in HR, so I wanted to share this one directly with you.

Before you go, try one thing today: take a task you normally give ChatGPT and move it up one level. Give it more context and see how much of the process it can handle for you.

And make sure you open tomorrow’s email. I’m going to show you something that completely changed how I think about using ChatGPT, and I think you’re going to want to try it immediately.

Good morning, I'm writing this email from a Starbucks in Arizona and this weather is amazing! Because I'm traveling...I am away from work; however, there's something I want you to try: Think about everything you did at work this past week. How much of it truly required your judgment, expertise, creativity, or interaction with another person? Now think about the time you spent researching, preparing reports, organizing information, writing routine emails, or handling all the smaller tasks that...

Good morning, You probably use ChatGPT by opening a new conversation, explaining what you need, adding context, and correcting the response until it gets closer to what you wanted. But if you repeat the same instructions every week, you are wasting time. A custom GPT lets you create a specialized version of ChatGPT with its own instructions, knowledge, and capabilities. Instead of teaching AI how to help you every time you open a chat, you can build an assistant that already understands its...

Good morning, You are living through a moment where AI seems to change every day. Every day brings a new model, benchmark, product launch, or breakthrough claim and trying to keep up with all of it can feel overwhelming. When I was in undergrad studying statistics, we frequently covered a concept called the Pareto Principle. The rough idea is that 20% of the concepts explain 80% of what is happening across the industry. So if you focus on the foundational ideas first, the endless stream of...
