How You Can Beat AI Today

Good morning,

The biggest misconception about AI is that it will make your expertise less valuable. If AI can answer almost any question, write reports, generate code, and explain complex topics in seconds, why would you spend 4+ years (in college) working to become an expert?

But what if the opposite happens?

What if, as AI becomes more capable, the ability to distinguish between a good answer and a convincing answer may become one of the most valuable skills you can have?

Cogito ____ (coming soon):

What's Going on:

You probably assume AI levels the playing field by giving everyone access to expert-level knowledge. While that's true to some extent, access to information has never been the same thing as understanding it.

AI can generate more content, analysis, and recommendations in an hour than any human could consume in a lifetime.

But this information is worthless if you don't have the knowledge and insights to decipher between the convincing wrong answers or boring correct answer.

Think about the highest-stakes decisions in business, healthcare, law, finance, or engineering. The value comes from leaders making sound judgments under tense situations with other human beings.

Why it matters to you:

If AI can generate information on demand, your long-term value won't come from memorizing facts or learning short blurbs of information you get from random Instagram videos/posts.

Your value will come from your ability to interpret information, recognize what's important, identify what's missing, and make better decisions than someone relying entirely on AI.

The best thing you can do to further develop these skills is to stop scrolling on social media and spend time thinking through difficult problems. Use AI to investigate problems thoroughly, but rely on your own intuition to draw the final conclusion.

Prompt of the Day:

Act as a subject matter expert reviewing this response. Identify any inaccuracies, weak assumptions, missing context, overlooked risks, or areas where a true expert would disagree. Explain what should be improved and why.

Save Time/Money:

The next time AI gives you a recommendation, resist the urge to immediately act on it. Instead, ask a follow-up question:

"What are the strongest arguments against this recommendation?"

You'll be surprised how often this prompt reveals risks, assumptions, or blind spots that weren't obvious in the original response. Spending these two or three extra minutes challenging an answer will save you hours of mistakes and rework later.

Good morning, I'm writing this email from a Starbucks in Arizona and this weather is amazing! Because I'm traveling...I am away from work; however, there's something I want you to try: Think about everything you did at work this past week. How much of it truly required your judgment, expertise, creativity, or interaction with another person? Now think about the time you spent researching, preparing reports, organizing information, writing routine emails, or handling all the smaller tasks that...

Good morning, You probably use ChatGPT by opening a new conversation, explaining what you need, adding context, and correcting the response until it gets closer to what you wanted. But if you repeat the same instructions every week, you are wasting time. A custom GPT lets you create a specialized version of ChatGPT with its own instructions, knowledge, and capabilities. Instead of teaching AI how to help you every time you open a chat, you can build an assistant that already understands its...
